Finishing a main Easter egg is hard. Finishing it fast is harder. We want every DREADVEIL speedrun to count, so we're building global speedrun leaderboards into the game from the start. Leaderboards are in development, and the details below may change before launch.
One board per map
Every map gets its own global leaderboard, because every map has its own main Easter egg. You can filter each board two ways:
- Team size: Solo, Duos, Trios, Squads and 8 Players. Each size is ranked separately, so a solo run never competes with a full squad.
- Game mode: Solo, Private Match, Online Match, Ranked Match, or all eligible modes together.
A team's run is one row that credits every player on it, with its position, players, time, mode, date and Match ID. However far down the board you are, you can always see your own best time and where it ranks.
How a run is timed
- The clock starts when play starts. Lobby and loading time never count.
- It stops when the main Easter egg's final step is completed. Your time is recorded, but the match doesn't end. Keep surviving as long as you can.
- The clock is the game's, not your PC's. Times are measured by the match itself and shown to the hundredth of a second.
- Only Solo games can pause. Paused time never counts toward your run.
Your team is locked in
A few seconds after the clock starts, your team for the run is fixed. That keeps every category fair:
- Disconnects are forgiven. If a teammate drops and reconnects, they're still on the team and the run continues.
- Leaving never shrinks the team. If a Squads run loses a player, it's still a Squads run.
- Late joiners don't count. If someone joins after the start, the run can't be verified. A team can't bring in outside help and still compete in a smaller category.
Match IDs
Every match gets a Match ID the moment the clock starts, for example DV-7K3Q-9XMR. Everyone in the match sees the same ID. It appears under the timer on your HUD, in the pause menu, on the results screen and next to your run on the leaderboard.
Match IDs leave out characters that are easy to confuse, like 0 and O or 1 and I, so anyone can read one off a stream or a video. You can copy any run's ID from the leaderboard or search for one. In a Ranked race, both teams share a race ID and each team gets its own run, ending in -A or -B.
Verified runs only
Having a Match ID doesn't mean a run is verified. Each run shows one of four statuses:
- Pending verification: the run is still being played or checked.
- Verified: it passed every check and is on the leaderboard.
- Unverified: it failed a check or couldn't be checked, so it stays off the leaderboard.
- Removed: it was taken down by our moderators.
Before a run goes on the board, our servers check it: that every step happened in the right order and at a believable time, that every teammate's game agrees on the final time, and that the roster matches who was really there. Players can't edit the leaderboards or run records. If you play offline or aren't signed in, the game still times your run, but it's marked Unverified and stays off the global boards.
What's next
Speedrun leaderboards and Ranked Play are built to work together, so the fastest teams can prove it on both. We'll share more as they take shape. Until then, create an account or sign up for early updates to reserve your player name and hear first about playtests.
