Finishing a main Easter egg quest has always been one of the biggest challenges in round-based zombies. Speedrunning one is even harder. Ranked Play turns that challenge into a head-to-head competition: two teams, the same map, and one goal. Ranked Play is planned and in development, and the details below may change before launch.
How a ranked match works
Every ranked match is a race to complete a map's main Easter egg quest:
- Two teams, two copies of the map. Each team plays its own separate copy of the same map, so you never run into the other team. Your only opponents in the world are the horde and the clock.
- The same quest for both sides. Both teams start at the same time and work through the same main quest.
- First to finish wins. The first team to complete the main quest takes the match.
Because the teams play on separate copies of the map, nobody can grief or block your run. You win by playing the map better and faster than the other team.
From 1v1 to 8v8
Ranked Play is planned for five team sizes:
- 1v1: a solo duel. Your knowledge of the map against theirs.
- 2v2 and 3v3: small teams where every player carries part of the quest.
- 4v4: a full squad on each side, splitting up steps and covering each other against the horde.
- 8v8: our largest format, where coordination matters as much as speed.
Built for skill
Each map's main Easter egg is designed to challenge experienced Zombies players, and Ranked Play is where that experience pays off. Knowing the steps is only the start. Winning means surviving the rounds while you complete them, making good calls under pressure, and working as a team.
Your Black Magic counts here too. The right Voodoo Doll at the right moment can save a run, so choosing your Voodoo Doll Class before a ranked match is part of the strategy.
